Comedy and the Rabbi: Two Paths, One Mission

20 August 2025

Shortly before Jackie passed away, I had dinner with him. It was a quiet, meaningful moment — two family members, reflecting. I told him something I don’t think he expected to hear:

That he and my father — a rabbi — were more alike than he realized.

Both brought Jewish awareness and values to the world. One from a synagogue pulpit, the other from a Broadway stage. One using scripture, the other, punchlines.

When I told Jackie our grandfather would be proud of him, he paused. He smiled. And I could tell that sentiment meant more to him than any standing ovation.

It was a reminder that how you share wisdom matters less than why you share it. And that every family legacy has many expressions.
